Are you officially engaged? Sweet! Next step: engagement photoshoot. If you decide to do it in spring, well, you made a great choice! How much more beautiful could the surroundings be other than in spring? Think of cherry blossom trees and lovely flowers just about everywhere. The trees and grasses have fresh shades of green, and everything looks and feels fresh! Many couples flock to New York City to take their engagement photos in spring because of the beautiful flowers and places. If you’re one of them, then here are some NYC spring engagement session ideas for you:

Where to Shoot your NYC Spring Engagement Photos

The Mall at Central Park – The Literary Walk at the southern part of The Mall at Central Park looks gorgeous as it’s lined with Cherry Blossom trees on both sides. This will surely be a pretty background for your photos. During spring, other beautiful locations inside Central Park include Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Wagner Cove, Ramble, Nell Singer Lilac Walk, Cedar Hill, The Glade, and Reservoir.

New York Botanical Garden: Your eyes (and the camera) will feast on thousands of beautiful flowers and plants. Strike a pose amongst the Magnolias, Daffodils, Azaleas, Flowering Dogwoods, and a lot more. But it’s good to note that they require a special occasion photography permit, so better inquire with them beforehand.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Like New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is just as spectacular. Choose from the various gardens inside, such as Shakespeare Garden, Cherry Esplanade, Fragrance Garden, and Rose Garden, among others. And just like NYBG, they require a permit as well.

Your Special Place: You don’t have to choose a flowery spot just because it’s spring. Consider doing your engagement photo session in your favorite place. Perhaps it’s your go-to cafe, pizzeria, a public library, or even in your apartment. As long as it has a special meaning for you both, then, by all means, go for it!

What to Wear in your Spring Engagement Session

With regards to clothing, you should dress with the location in mind. When you go for an outdoor location with many flowers in bloom, consider a flowy pastel dress with an accessory or two. But don’t wear green when there are green trees and grass all over. You know, it might be hard to locate you in the photos. Also, avoid loud colors and distracting patterns in your clothing. And bear in mind that you should complement and not match each other. Another tip is to dress in layers if you want to tweak your look without really changing clothes. This is useful, especially if you would do the session in an area where there’s no place to change outfits.

What to Expect in your Engagement Session

Your engagement photo session is an opportunity to get comfortable with your photographer and in front of the camera. Trust that your photographer will do their best and guide you throughout the session to achieve stunning photos. Most photographers recommend professional hair and makeup for their clients. Remember that your engagement photos will appear from your Save The Date Cards to your wedding and homes afterward. So it’s best to look your best! Lastly, your engagement photos should symbolize your love story and who you are as a couple. So just have fun, be yourselves, and enjoy your photo session just like any other day hanging out together.
