How to Nail Indoor Engagement Photography

COVID-19 has been heartbreaking in so many ways. But there’s a silver lining to remember. The pandemic hasn’t stopped anyone from asking the big question! My Instagram feed is full of ring photos and people popping bottles of bubbles! Of course, when you get engaged, you want to start planning things like your engagement session. Which is so hard right now, due to closures and uncertainty.

Not only is it hard to stay safe out in the city, but we’re also embarking on colder, rainier weather. While an umbrella and rain boots can be a cute addition to an engagement photoshoot, it’s less than ideal to be soaking wet and cold. You’re supposed to be making photo magic with your soon to be spouse! So it got me thinking, how can I still take unique and exciting engagement session photos while staying socially-distanced?

At Home Indoor Engagement Session

There’s something so cozy and poetic about snapping intimate photos of couples in love at home! Not to mention it’s an idea most couples don’t even think about. It can be fun to choose an activity to do. I love photos with cooking, making coffee, or even snuggling on the couch with a blanket! Sessions in a space that you’re comfortable spending time together daily deliver relaxed, intimate, and unique photos.

ProTip: If you choose an at-home shoot, make sure you pick a space with large windows and lots of natural light. If you don’t have that option, that’s fine, leading to my next suggestion: AirBnBs!

An Airbnb Engagement Session

If you’re tired of being in your home and want to have your shoot in a different location, an Airbnb is a great option. In 2018 Airbnb introduced Airbnb Plus. These are a selection of only the highest quality homes with hosts known for great reviews and attention to detail. Every Airbnb Plus home is one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with a standard set of amenities. Not only are they usually super cute and styled, but you can also enjoy the spot for the rest of the evening with your significant other!

Heading to a Restaurant

As I’m writing this, there are still many restrictions on public places and wearing masks. As constraints begin to lift, it may be an option to pop into a restaurant and do a fun engagement photography session! I love seeing couples at “their spot,” sliding into a booth, and enjoying their favorite menu items.

Picture yourself cozied up with your love enjoying a rich glass of red wine in your go-to New York City spot’s window seat. By placing yourself in these familiar situations, you instantly ease any stresses you may have felt about being behind the lens.

ProTip: Opt for a spot with a cute facade so we can get some excellent out front shots too.
