Updated October 2026. If you are planning a New York wedding, here is the short answer. NYC wedding photographer cost in 2026 and 2027 runs from about $5,000 to $50,000 and beyond for a full wedding day. Most experienced photographers in the city fall between $8,000 and $25,000.
That is a wide range, and it is wide for a reason. I have photographed weddings in New York since 2012, and price here has very little to do with hours. It has to do with who is holding the camera, how they see, and how many weddings they take on each year.
Below is how the market breaks down, what moves the number, and how to decide what is right for you.
The average NYC wedding photographer cost in 2026 and 2027
National surveys put the average wedding photographer at about $3,000. The Knot Real Weddings Study, which draws on more than 10,000 couples, lands there. That figure is accurate, and it tells you very little about Manhattan.
In New York, the market sorts itself by experience. These are the ranges I see for a full wedding day of eight to ten hours.

These are market ranges, not a price list. They shift with the season, the day of the week, and the scope of the celebration.
Why NYC wedding photographer prices have risen
If a friend married a few years ago and paid less, that is not unusual. The cost of doing this work well in New York has climbed steadily.
- Film. Film stock, processing and scanning all cost more than they did a few years ago. Across a full wedding day, every roll adds up.
- The cost of living. New York is more expensive each year. Studio rent, insurance, parking and transportation all rise with it.
- The team. Experienced second photographers and assistants are paid more than they were, and rightly so.
- Equipment and software. Cameras, lenses, storage, editing software and gallery hosting are ongoing costs, not one-time purchases.
None of this changes what you should look for in a photographer. It simply explains why a proposal today looks different from one written in 2021.
What a city hall or intimate wedding costs
Not every New York wedding is a ten-hour day. City hall weddings and elopements are some of my favorite things to photograph, and they have different prices.
For one to three hours of coverage, the NYC market runs from $2,000 to $6,000 and up. The difference comes down to the photographer, how long you would like them with you, and whether you add portraits around the city afterward.
Weekend dates for intimate weddings usually cost more. A Saturday given to a small celebration is a Saturday no longer open for a large one.

What drives NYC wedding photographer cost
Experience and point of view
The biggest factor is the person. A photographer with a decade of weddings has a point of view you can see across an entire gallery, not only in the ten images on a homepage. You are paying for their eye, their consistency, and their judgment in rooms where nothing can be repeated.
How many weddings they take
Photographers who take fewer weddings give each one more of themselves. Limited availability is part of the price, especially for Saturdays in May, June, September and October.
Time, on the day and after it
Coverage usually begins at eight hours and runs to ten or twelve. What you do not see is the rest. Once planning calls, timeline review, editing and delivery are counted, a ten-hour wedding often represents forty to sixty hours of work.
The team
Many collections include a second photographer and an assistant. With a larger guest list, that means you are both photographed while getting ready, and the people you love are covered while the lead photographer stays with you.
Film and digital
Film adds real cost in stock, processing and scanning. It also gives a depth and softness that is hard to reach any other way. I shoot both and scan my own film, and photographers who work this way generally price above digital-only coverage. Here is why I shoot both digital and film.
The scope of the celebration
Welcome dinners, rehearsal dinners, after parties and farewell brunches are now part of many New York wedding weekends. Each added event adds coverage, and destination weddings add travel.
What is usually included
Most full-day wedding collections in New York include:
- Eight to twelve hours of consecutive coverage
- A lead photographer, often with a second photographer and an assistant
- A private online gallery with high-resolution downloads
- Personal printing rights
- A set of preview images shortly after the wedding
Commonly added:
- An engagement session

Collections are not built the same way from one studio to the next. When you compare, look at what is included, not only the total.
Questions to ask before you compare prices
- May I see a full gallery from one wedding, start to finish?
- Who will photograph my wedding, and who is on the team?
- Do you shoot film, digital, or both?
- When will I receive previews, and when will I receive the full gallery?
- What are the retainer and payment schedule, and is sales tax included?
- What happens if the day runs longer than planned?
The first question matters most. A highlight reel shows a photographer’s twenty best frames. A full gallery shows how they see an entire day.
How to decide what to spend
Start with the work. Look for a photographer whose full galleries move you, and whose images of people you have never met still make you feel something.
Then think about how you want to feel on the day. Your photographer is beside you for most of it, and a calm, attentive presence is worth a great deal.
Finally, consider what remains. The flowers, the dinner and the music are gone by morning. The photographs are what you keep, and what your family will return to decades from now.
